EU pesticide volume sales tumble by 6% in 2019

Sales of pesticides in the EU in 2019 totalled 333,418 tonnes, down 6% on 2018, indicate the latest data from the European Commission’s statistical service, Eurostat. This is the lowest volume since the data started to be recorded by the service. From 2011, sales of pesticides had remained relatively stable in EU countries at around 360,000 tonnes, before the decline seen in 2019, Eurostat says. It is important to note that many of the more hazardous active ingredients have been removed from the market following their evaluation under the EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009), it adds.
