Bayer loses appeal on validity of EU neonicotinoid bans

Bayer’s Crop Science division and parent company Bayer have lost an appeal to overturn a 2018 ruling that found the suspensions placed on three neonicotinoid insecticides, including Bayer insecticides, clothianidin and imidacloprid, were legally valid. The appeal was against the decision of the General Court of the European Court of Justice covering the 2013 suspensions of the Bayer insecticides and Syngenta’s thiamethoxam. Bayer says that its appeal was not specifically aimed at the insecticides, but at the general predictability of active ingredient approvals in the EU.
