Danish researchers discover protein that alters shape of plants

Researchers from the Danish Copenhagen University have discovered a micro-protein capable of influencing the physical shape of plants such as barley and rice, and potentially making them more productive. Dubbed the Little Ninja, the protein could be used to “force” a plant into taking a different shape. The researchers say that increasing levels of the protein in plants could make them smaller and bushier, and thereby more resistant to winds, while an increased number of side shoots could result in more flowers and fruits.
