Asked who is doing well at understanding how to work with innovation and technology, PwC partner Andy Symons named a number of great New Zealand brands. He pointed to Air New Zealand which many years ago set up its Hangar 9, where it would take customers and quite literally simulate a flight situation to get customers to help solve a problem. The airline also disaggregated its ticket prices by splitting out meals, entertainment and luggage. In turn, says Symons, New Zealand banks are doing a good job balancing the incredibly competitive nature of their sector against the need to try new things such as partnerships and customer channels such as mobile apps.
