German govt issues law to phase out glyphosate by end of 2023

The German government has issued a legislation and an ordinance to phase out the sale and use of glyphosate herbicide by the end of 2023 citing the goal of protecting insect habitat. The country’s Insect Protection Act, also covering restrictions on insecticides for the protection of pollinating insects, was issued last week. The draft bill provides that biotopes such as orchards and species-rich grassland be retained as habitats for insects.
