Colombian GM maize area up in 2020

The Colombian maize area planted with genetically modified technology grew by 23% last year, according to the USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS). In contrast, the GM cotton area fell by 37%. The FAS commentsthat “ongoing dialogue” on regulations covering the technology “need to be finalised” in order to “stabilise” Colombia’s regulatory environment for GMOs. Those dialogues cover issues such as low-level presence (LLP) of GMOs, GMO labelling, GM-derived agricultural product imports, and GM-free municipalities.
