New Zealand to ban methyl bromide use on ship holds

The New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is to ban use of the fumigant, methyl bromide, aboard ships. Prohibition on such use will start on January 1st 2023. A decision-making committee of the EPA found no evidence in its reassessment that technology to recapture methyl bromide from fumigation of ships’ holds exists “nor is it on the horizon”.
