The Genus Miscanthus

The popularity of exotic grasses in gardens has reached a stage where they are almost ubiquitous. Most gardeners with an eye for the visual impact of their gardens include a few grasses to add contrast in shape and texture to their creation. Over thelast ten years a considerable selection ot grasses has become available and out of this selection probably the most popular is Miscanthus. With its robust tussocks of narrow erect leaves and tall, stout stems topped by feathery plumes, it provides a striking contrast to the shrubs and herbs which form the foundation of many garden designs. Miscanthus also has the rare value of looking attractive when its flowering period is over; even in winter it tan enhance the garden with its persistent leaf-blades, upright stems and fluffy inflorescences.
