Climbing hydrangeas and their relatives

julian shaw gives an overview of climbing Hydrangea, Pileostegia and Schizophragma and provides some new names for recently introduced plants.This is a desirable group of tolerant, hardy and robust yet attractive climbers. Some are widely grown and others are rarely seen, yet they still hold many secrets for botanists and plantpersons. This survey of plants in cultivation partly grew out of aneed to name the accessions cultivated at Crug Farm Plants in north Wales. The majority of collection numbers I have cited are of plants grown at that nursery. But I also hope to address some of the nomenclatural confusion that exists in the climbing Hydrangeaceae.
