John Hoog pioneering bulb dealer

The 150th anniversary of the birth of Dutch nurseryman John Hoog falls on 9 September 2015. In its heyday his nursery was at the centre of an extensive web of plant hunters who introduced a vast array of bulb species to cultivation.In this article I outline his role in encouraging these explorers. I also highlight the main species that were introduced through his nursery.
