In October 1976, while trekking towards the Everest region of eastern Nepal, I collected seed of a black-fruited Skimmia near the summit of the Takshindu Pass. This collection was subsequently determined as S. laureola subsp. multinervia. It later became apparent that my collection was its first introduction to westerncultivation (Taylor 1987). My field notes read: "Black-fruited Skimmia sp., Jumbesi side (west) of the Takshindu Pass, Solu District, E. Nepal ± 8,500ft (2,453m). 19/10/1976, Schilling 2154".
