Grown for their colourful . bell-shaped or tubular flowers in vivid shades of red, blue, purple and white, lochroma provides us with handsome shrubs for a sheltered spot or conservatory. lochroma cyaneum and /. grandiflorum have been in cultivation since Victorian times, providing a good display under glass in the UK or moved outdoors in summer. In Mediterranean gardens /. grandiflorum can become very impressive, bearing numerous bright blue, pendent, trumpet flowers to 7cm long, on an evergreen shrub or small tree to 8m.
