Five years ago, trachelium was something of a rarity—available year-round but considered by many to be a summer flower, mainly useful as a filler. The species name, Trachelium caeruleum, suggests its primary hue, "cerulean" meaning a shade of blue associated with the sky. Cut-flower breeders had gradually increased the range of colors available to include, not only blue and purple and lavender, but also white and even light pink.
