Lenzing starts construction of world's largest lyocell fibre production plant in Thailand

Austrian fibre producer Lenzing has begun construction of its new lyocell fibre plant inThailand. The company said it had laid the foundation stone for the world's largest facility of this type on 15 November. The plant is located in Industrial Park 304 in Tatoom, Srimahapoj in Prachinburi province and will have a capacity of 100,000 tpy. The company says it is investing €400m to build the first production line, which is slated to be completed in the third quarter of 2021. Fibre production will start in the fourth quarter of that year. Up to three more lines could be installed and operated on the new site, according to Lenzing. The project is "of great importance" because it is Lenzing's first step in bringing lyocell production to Asia,"home to the largest markets, the most important customers and the most extensive growth potential in specialty fibre production".
