Scientists from the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) claim to have undertaken the “largest, highest quality analysis of data” to conclude that genetically modified insect-resistant Bt maize has “little impact” on non-target insects and other organisms when compared with conventional maize. The study counters notions that Bt maize can destroy beneficial insects and other non-target organisms, with the researchers stressing that such impressions are the result of surveys that are “limited in scope, environment or size”.
