US ag interests sue to uproot chlorpyrifos ban on food crops

US ag interests are refusing to give up the battle over the organophosphate insecticide, chlorpyrifos. Several have asked a federal appeals court to block the EPA from revoking food tolerances for the active ingredient. Filed February 9th with the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the lawsuit contends that the EPA has failed to justify its decision to effectively ban all food uses of chlorpyrifos and ignored “its own science confirming the crop protection tool can be used safely, effectively, and without dietary or environmental risk”.
