In recent years, the role of imaging has increased in the diagnosis and management of neurologic complications in patients with human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Multiple illnesses affecting the central nervous system have overlapping clinical presentations without specific diagnostic laboratory findings. The authors propose a simple algorithmic approach to the neuroradiologic imaging findings that may assist clinicians and radiologists in the diagnosis of neurologic complications in these patients.
