The number (N_i) of alpha emitters in a mineral with energy (E_i) in volume (v_i) is expressed by the equation: N_i = rho_i.v_i = rho_i.S.L_i where v_i = L_i.S, S being the surface of the grain and L_i the maximal length of the alpha particle in geological material for the i 'th emitter, n_i is the number of the particles emitted in a given time t: n_i = lambda_i.N_i.t. Taking into account the radioactive equilibriunvin the radioactive family, we have: lambda_1N_1 = lambda_2N_2 = .....lambda_iN_i..... hence: n_i = lambda_1.rho_1.S.L_i.t.
