Production of radioisotopes for medical application in State Scientific Center of Russian Federation -- Institute of Physics and Power Engineering

In 1996 the State Scientific Center of Russian Federation - Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (SSC-RF-IPPE) celebrated the 50 year anniversary of its foundation. For this period of time the Center was organized as a complex scientific institution able to solve complicated scientific nuclear power problems. The main directions of investigation are: nuclear physics; scientific development of projects of thermal and fast-neutron reactors; development of specially-dedicated reactors (transportable, for space applications); development of technologies connected with nuclear power operation. From the very beginning of the Center's existence, problems of radiochemistry related to spent fuel testing and development of spent fuel recycling technology were in highlighted. Questions connected with the extraction and deep purification of some isotopes were important, among other tasks. Since 1987 a regular production of isotopes for medical applications has been initiated within the framework of the conversion.
