Lazarus and Bewley [2005] (hereinafter referred to as LB05) use 7 years of tower data from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) to evaluate the least squares (LS) methodology introduced by Archer and Jacobson [2003]. The main finding of LB05 is that the LS methodology appears to overestimate wind speed and, consequently, wind power, at ~80 m. We show that LB05 did not use the true LS methodology of Archer and Jacobson [2003] or published modifications of it and that the true LS methodology produces conservative and quite accurate results for KSC. As such, the main conclusions of LB05 apply only to their own version of the LS methodology.
