As predicted a year ago, the new EPA regulations kicking in this year pumped up heavy-truck sales in 2006 in anticipation and are already hammering sales for 2007. Sales "finished '06 very, very strong," says American Truck Dealers (ATD) chairman George Grask. "We expected the first quarter of'07 to be slow, and it didn't disappoint." Medium- and heavy-duty truck sales surged in 2006. Class 6 gained 16 percent over 2005 to hit 70,029. Class 7 grew about 2 percent, reaching 90,792. Class 8 had a strong showing, up 12 percent to 284,008.
