Incoming nada chairman dale willey never imagined any career other than being a dealer like his dad, who had a Chevy/Olds store outside Kansas City. Willey's boyhood friends were mostly sons of dealers, and his dad's friends were other dealers-it all just seemed "preordained." But then his father died unexpectedly when Willey was 23, and GM, citing his lack of sales and management experience, didn't let him keep the dealership.
