Three-fourths of Mazda dealers have signed on to the no-charge Shopping Assistant chat line launched in July, but it's too early to tell if the Internet service is all talk and no sales. Vehicle buyers can get new product information and dealer price quotes on the chat line. About 2,000 chats are logged monthly and bring in 250 quote requests, but only 20 percent of those result in a sale, says Mazda's Jay Amestoy. Mazda encourages dealers to respond quickly by removing leads after three hours.
