It was Guy S. Garber's reputation as a farm implement salesman in Michigan that earned him a shot at success in the automotive world. The year was 1907, and Garber was one of 13 people handpicked to become a factory representative for the Buick Motor Division of General Motors. A few years later, Garber established a Buick dealership on Washington Street in Saginaw, Mich.—the first of many franchises to carry his name. Increased sales soon necessitated larger quarters, and Garber Buick moved to Genesee Avenue in 1963. The dealership moved again in 2000, opening a new flagship store in a thriving business district of Saginaw. Garber's affiliation with GM lasted nearly 60 years, through the Great Depression and two world wars. He held one of the last remaining GM distributorships until his death in 1965.
