Lack of evidence for direct involvement of Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

Koljonen et al described an association between chronic lympho-cytic leukemia (CLL) and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV)-positive Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) in a recent large population-based survey from Finland. CLL has been reported as a tumor significantly associated with MCC, validating the general findings of this study. This association suggests the possibility that MCV may play a role in CLL as well as in MCC.
