Transcending a traditional, albeit simple notion of a disparity between energy intake and expenditure, obesity now encompasses a complex field integrating advances in our understanding of the complex physiology of energy balance (1), assessment of key psychosocial aspects (2), public health issues regarding attendant comorbidities, and hence to paradigm shifts in potential therapeutic strategies (3,4).
