Europe's biggest transform their slaughter business

TEN slaughter/process companies accounted for almost 30% of all pig slaughterings in Europe in 2004, according to the latest rankings produced by our associated journal Meat Processing Global. The enlargement of the European Union introduced some bigprocessing companies from eastern Europe, some of them backed by large players in the world market. The takeover of Sokolow in Poland by Danish Crown of Finland and HK Ruokatalo of Finland was just one of several shifts in the balance of the European pigmeat processing industry.
