Gentic variability of the mediterranean sea red mullet, Mullus barbatus (pisces, mullidae)

In order to assess genetic variability allozymes of red mullet samples from eight Mediterranean Sea sites were investigated by PAGE. Three of the tested twenty-fivel loci were polymorphic at 95percent level over all the samples. The average observed heterozygosity was 0.043. Nei's index revealed a genetic distance ranging fron 0.000 to 0.002. Fst values indicated insignificant differences among the sample sites examined. The resulting mean value of F_st equals to 0.009. Gene flow estimation showed a value of 28 migrants per generation.
