Genetics of coloration in ornamental common carp (Koi): a more detailed study on the inheritance of white coloration.
Studies on ornamental common carp from the collections of the experimental station of the All-Russia Institute of Freshwater Fisheries and the fishery of the Elektrogorsk power plant revealed two genetic systems determining white coloration of the body. In carp from the collection of the All-Russia Institute of Freshwater Fisheries, white coloration was determined by the well-known system of recessive genes b1b1b2b 2rr. All the offspring from crossing these carp lacked pigment cells (melanophores and xanthophores). At the larval stage, these carp look transparent and, later, white. In carp from the Elektrogorsk fishery, another genetic system (ii) was found. The interaction of this system with the known coloration genes (B1, B2, and R) followed the recessive epistasis pattern. In the offspring cross between white carp with this genetic system, segregation may occur, with wild-type and orange offspring.
