The major challenge for Sweden, when it takes EU centre stage as Council President in June, will be how to finance Europe's environmental goals, according to Swedish environment minister, Andreas Carlgren, in a government statement this week. Despite pledging to put climate protection and preparation for a co-ordinated EU position for the December's Copenhagen United Nations conference on climate change at the top of its game when it becomes EU president, the Swedish government has made it clear that climate financing is an "urgent challenge."
