Underwater lights increase production in crawfish ponds

Dr. Julie Delabbio of Northwestern State University, Louisiana has recently reported some interesting results with experimental illumination of crawfish ponds at the University's Aquaculture research Center. In the Southern States crawfish are farmedin outdoor ponds, and harvested once a year. With the use of underwater lights, Dr. Delabbio has found that a farmer can get more and bigger crawfish from the same pond acreage, with no need for additional water. The research very much supports a "sustainable" farming practice with negligible environmental impact.
