Maine aquaculture training programs help fishermen become aquafarmers

The Maine Aquaculture Training Institute (MATI) graduated its first class of 16 commercial fishermen and wild harvesters in 1999. Most of the graduates went on to start their own farms after completing the 10-week course.In a little over a decade, programs offering education in aquaculture, a source of additional income to most enrollees, have come and gone based on the availability of funding.
