Indigenous Aquaculture Network - Groundbreaking Meeting Sets The Agenda For Aquaculture In Indian Country

The recently formed indigenous aquaculture netwoik convened Match 21-23rd at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Thirteen participants from across North America presented summaries of current projects, practices and issues relating to the increased attention on aquaculture in Indian Country. Projects highlighted included coastal shellfish, integrated agriculture-aquaculture on arid lands, re-circulating systems, and small-scale trout operations with a distinct community development flavor. All participants emphasized the role of sound and appropriate cultural foundations for tribal aquaculture that reflect the past and build towards a sustainable future.
