Bangladesh to join list of promising sales outlets for coal exporters

Backed by growing requirements in the Bangladeshi energy sector as well as expansion in the construction industry, coal demand is rising intensely in the country. In the ten coming years, the capacity of local coal-fired power plants will double to 40 GW. In case announced projects are implemented in time, foreign thermal coal purchases will reach 20 million t by 2025 and 44 million t by 2040, Metal Expert estimates. In the mid-term outlook, Bangladesh will become one of the most attractive outlets, mainly for exporters from Indonesia, Australia, South Africa and Russia.
