Anglo American reduces thermal and coking coal production in Q1

Anglo American cut production to 12.9 million t in Q1 2020, down from 13.4 million t in the year-ago period. Specifically, thermal coal extraction went down by 2% to 9.1 million t mostly because of state restrictions in South Africa. Coking coal output fell by 8% to 3.8 million t due to a roof collapse at Moranbah North mine, Queensland’s Bowen Basin, during a longwall installation in late January.
