摘要

West Virginia utilizes a "Freely Traded Aquatic Species" concept which enables the movement of various fish species around and across state lines provided that there is appropriate documentation to prove the fish are healthy and will not spread disease. What's more, West Virginia s mountainous terrain with ample groundwater seems to some like an invitation to farm fish. However, according to Ken Semmens, the Aquaculture Specialist for West Virginia University's Extension Program, building the state's aquaculture industry, which includes pond and lake-stocking programs for recreational fishers, has been a slow process, especially for food fish.
