Detection of anti-coxiella brunetii antibody in milk samples of goats with a history of abortion

Coxiella burnetii an obligate intracellular microorganism, causes Q fever in humans and animals. Anti-C. burnetii antibody in goat milk samples from clinically healthy (30) or with a history of abortion (30) were detected with a Q fever antibody ELISA test. Antibody was detected in 19 goats with a history of abortion and in 12 healthy goats. There was no significant difference between groups. The results suggest that goat milk could be a source of C. burnetii infection for humans.
