Bladder exstrophy (BE) is a congenital, complex, rare disease affecting the musculoskeletal and urinary system, particularly in males. Reconstruction of the structures involved in this disease has been directed to improving the quality of life of patients through creation of favorable conditions for lower urinary tract function. A 4 month old, 7 Kg monorchid Pitbull presented a non-ulcerated, shiny surface swollen mass in the perineum, ventral to the anus, with urine draining through 2 perforations. lodinated contrast technique showed no contrast material after 4 hoursin either kidney, and neither urinary bladder or ureters could be visualized. However, the pelvis and diverticula appeared dilated by the contrast material. In contrast, excretory urography revealed both renal structures but not the ureters. Using caudalpelvic insertion, retrograde cysto-urethrography revealed both ureters. Bladder reconstruction was not possible and thus bladder amputation and perineal percutaneous ureterostomy were done. Postoperatively, there were no complications and the dog was able to void urine though the stomata without aid of a urinary catheter. After 20 days, the patient appeared normal without signs of urinary obstruction.
