摘要

Shiga toxigenic E. coli (STEC) causes haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), haemorrhagic colitis (HS) and thrombocytopenic purpura in humans. Ground beef samples were enriched in modified tryptose soy broth, plated on sorbitol CT-SMAC and CHROM agar samples after IMViC test and serotyped as E. coli O157. From 100 samples, 4 isolates were confirmed by PCR as E. coli O157. Among the positive samples, one sample had stx1 and stx2, another one had stx1, eae and hyl A. one was positive for stx1 and the last one had just stx2. Cattle are thought to be reservoir for E. coli O157 so ground beef could be considered a risk for food born -STEC contamination and hazard for human health. A minute number of E. coli O157 H7 strains were isolated from animal samples but contamination during slaughter, transport and distribution is also likely.
