Blood glucose in hospitalized dogs measured with humanportable glucometers and by chemical analysis.

Blood glucose concentrations in 30 dogs were determined with 5 human portable brands andthen compared with chemical spectrophotometric glucose analysis. Pearson correlationsbetween glucometers and automated analyzer values were checked by error grid analysisshowing no statistically significant differences except for one brand (P <0.015). Findings suggestthat determination of glucose with human glucometers in dogs should be verified by glucosechemical tests.
