Effect of graded deep stack broiler litter supplement on hematological and biochemical parameters in lambs.

Hematological and biochemical status of sixteen lambs fed deep-stack broiler litter was investigated. Deep stacking was prepared in an underground silo pit (2*2*2m) for 1 month. We formulated concentrate ration with 0% (control), 15%, 30% and 45% litter with other standard ingredients. Jugular blood samples were taken at 0, 14, 45 and 90 days. We found no significant ration% differences in hematology except for mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and l white blood cell count (p<0.05). Between the 4 periods(days) we found significant (p<0.05) differences in all hematological parameters with exception of red blood cell count. The ration by period interaction showed significant (p<0.05) difference for all measured hematological parameters. We found no ration (%) effect on blood biochemistry with exception of serum triglycerides (p<0.05). Blood biochemistry differed between the 4 periods (P<0.05) except for serum Na and globulin. The ration by period interaction showed significant (p<0.05) difference for all measured biochemical parameters. We find that supplement of up to 45% deep-stack broiler litter had no adverse effects on health in lambs.
