Case Study: Bilateral carnassial teeth abscesses in a female Pekinese

Carnassial tooth infections can occur from poor dental care and injury and typically in older dogs, especially over 7 years. An 8 year-old female Pekinese Japanese dog presented with bilateral draining tracts just under her both eyes with history of healing and relapsing ~3 weeks of systemic antibiotic therapy. Dental radiography revealed bilateral carnassial root abscesses. Under general anesthesia, both teeth were extracted completely. With proper post-operative care, the abscesses healed with no complications.
