JCCL starts construction of Cu plant

Chinese leading copper producer Jiangxi Copper Co., Ltd. on December 2, 2005 broke ground for construction of its new copper plant with capacity of 300,000tpy copper cathode. The smelter adopts the flash smelting technology and stainless-steel permanent cathode electrolysis technology., which are the world's advanced technology in terms of low energy consumption, high productivity and good performance in environmental protection. When the project is scheduled to be finished at the end of 2007, JCCL will be capable of producing 700,000 tonnes of copper cathode, 25 tonnes of gold and 450 tonnes of silver and gain 30 billion yuan of sales revenue per year, in the leading place in the world copper industry. Currently the company has production capacity of 400,000tpy copper cathode. The project is one of key-supporting projects by Jiangxi provincial government during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan(2006-201Q) and also in accordance with Chinese industrial policy for copper. Mr. Kang Yi, president of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association(CNI-A) and other top officials of Jiangxi province attended the launch ceremony of the project.
