BRIBERY AND MONEY LAUNDERING IS IMPACTING THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY: FCPA IS GOVERNMENT'S WEAPON

While activities arising in Nigeria could seem to be a world away, in today's global and digital business environment, geographic distance is increasingly unimportant. As such, international petroleum companies do face depressed oil prices, a situation over which they have virtually no control. However, they also must deal with bribes, kickbacks, and money laundering, situations over which they do have some control regardless of how far away these activities seem to originate. After all, if these multinationals fail to try to stop these illegal activities, they face significant FCPA consequences.
