Henan Province issues guideline for development of alumina industry

The relevant authority of Henan Province, the major producing area of bauxite, alumina and primary aluminum in China, recently issued guideline to guard and promote the health and sustainable development of alumina industry in the province. By the end of 2003, the province had the capacity to produce 2.4 million tpy of alumina and 2.0 million tpy of primary aluminum. Trigged by the alumina shortage and high alumina price in domestic market, a number of alumina projects were launched in the province but some of the projects ignored the restriction of limited bauxite resources there. In order to curb redundant construction of alumina projects in the province, it is necessary to issue and implement the guideline in the province's alumina industry, the authority said in a statement.
