NDRC calls for trimming unapproved alumina projects

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Chinese industrial policy legislator and watchdog, has recently issued a circular to the local developments and reform committees of Henan, Shanxi. Shandong, Guizhou provinces, Guanxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality as well as Aluminum Corporation of China(Chinalco), requiring the relevant authorities and organizations to curb the blind investment in alumina projects and trim the unapproved alumina projects, in a bid to make the best use of bauxite resources and safeguard the sustainable development of aluminum industry in China. Alumina is the key raw material for primary aluminum production and also one of the strategically important mineral products. Construction of alumina project should be under the central government's comprehensive layout. Because the project needs large investment and complicated technology, and the requirement standard for the project is pretty high in terms of resource, environmental protection and zoology.
