Large production base of coal, electricity and Al under construction in Baode, Shanxi

Construction of a large-sized production base of coal, coke, electric power, primary aluminum, aluminum semis and carbinol is underway at Baode county of Shanxi province, sources close to the situation said. The project will be finished by stages. The investment in stage one project will be 5.21 billion yuan(USD650 million).Once the whole project is completed by 2010, it will have capacity of producing 3.0 million tonnes of bauxite, 2.0 million tonnes limestone, 1.0 million tonnes alumina, 400,000 tonnes primary aluminum, 200,000 tonnes aluminum semis, 5.0 million tonnes coal, 1.0 million tonnes coke, 300,000 tonnes carbinol per year as well as 1.2 million kW electric power. It is worth noting that the 1.0 million tpy alumina project may come on stream in 2007.
