Project of extracting alumina from coal powder approved by NDRC

The project will have a capacity of producing 400,000 tonnes of alumina per year. Located in the city, the plant that will adopt Bayer process for alumina production is scheduled to come on stream at the end of 2007. The cost on the project is estimated to be 1.6 billion yuan (USD199 million) The project aims to take advantage of abundant coal resources in the local area. The company now has a number of coal-fired power stations with combined capacity of 2.0 million kW. The power stations annually generate 1.65 million tonnes of coal powder, which contains around 40 percent of alumina. Mengxi High & New Technology Co., Ltd. (Erdors city of Inner Mongolia) said its project of using coal powder to produce alumina and cement was recently approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and it would launch the project in the near future.
