Henan Zhongmei Aluminum restarts construction of alumina refinery

Kenan Zhongmei Aluminum Co., Ltd said it on February 16 restarted construction of a 1.2 million tpy greenfield alumina refinery in Dengfeng city of Henan province. In fact, the company launched the project in mid-2004 but it delayed the construction because the project had not been approved by relevant authorities including the NDRC. The NDRC issued a circular requiring the company to stop construction of the alumina project in mid-2005. Henan Zhongmei Aluminum is a joint venture of Yongcheng Coal & Electricity Group(70 percent), Dengfeng Electric Power Corporation( 10 percent) and Wuzhou Aluminum Co.. Ltd(20 percent). The investment in the project total 4.0 billion yuan. In recent few years, Chinese coal producers have obtained rich profits and some of them begin investment in other industries with strong financial strength.
