Construction of alumina project underway in Yangquan, Shanxi province

摘要

Yangquan Coal Corporation, a super large-size coal company in China,, is still building a greenfield alumina refinery in Yangquan area of Shanxi province although it has not got approval from the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC) and State Environmental Protection Administration(SEPA). But the alumina project is supported by the local government. The 1.2 million tpy alumina project will be completed by three stages. The Stage one project with capacity of 400,000tpy was launched at the end of 2004 and is likely to come on stream, at the end of 2006 or early next year. The alumina plant will use local rich bauxite as raw material.
